Felt rollers have been around for at least two decades, but have been used fairly infrequently. Recently it's become much more popular among World Cup service teams to use the felt-roller for fluoro application. The tool is used very much like a roto-cork, but it provides a unique and gentler application, and works alarming well to aid in the mechanical distribution of very high melt point powders on the base. We have used the felt roller primarily after ironing with high melt-point powders. We have also used it successfully for a very low-heat application of powder/liquid "slurries". My feeling is that the felt roller does a very efficient job of distributing materials on the surface for a uniform and durable surface coating without putting a lot of heat into the base.
